Show N’ Tell: Winter Coat

written by marieann

Winter Coat

My mother and I made this coat over winter break. To her credit, she’s the real seamstress in the relationship and I couldn’t ever have done it without her. We chose this lovely fleece with sequins and gold stitching. It’s fully lined and looks so professional. Mom even sewed one of her “made by Diane” tags in the back. The total supplies cost about $25 which makes for a very cheap warm winter coat (that’s cute too!). I don’t remember the exact pattern we used but it was McCalls, I believe.

Get Up and Go Headband

written by threadslinger

Headband!
There are some days where I just don’t feel like doing my hair, either I wake up late or am just feeling lazy. So, I was extremly happy when headbands became acceptable to wear again. I made this headband from this pattern on hellomynameisheather.com and it is perfect for me to pop on if you don’t have a lot of time to get ready or if you just like headbands. I plan to make some more with prettier/more fun fabric, but I didn’t think it would be acceptable to wear flowery headbands to meetings. :) This headband is super easy, fast and fun to do, just follow the pattern.

Show N’ Tell: T-Shirt Folding

written by marieann

Perfectly Folded T-Shirts

This is so nerdy, but if you have a tiny closet like me, it’s a godsend. I found a youtube video that shows you how to make a t-shirt folder. The great thing is that the folding board makes the shirts no matter what kind fold to the exact same size. The result is that they stack perfectly in the closet. Also, it is VERY fast to use it. Watch the youtube video below to make your own!

Show N’ Tell: Skirtalls

written by threadslinger

Remixed T-shirt
Before I had a sewing machine I saw this awesome tut on flickr and immediately wanted to make it. The instructions she has are really complete for making either short or skirtalls, I ended up making skirtalls because the t-shirt I chose was a little too small to make into shorts. But, this is a super easy, fun craft and skirtalls = instant hipness.

Show N’ Tell: Hipster Cross-Stitch

written by threadslinger

Kiss me, You Fool

I made this cross stitch for my boyfriend for Valentines day because I affectionately call him “fool” which he pretends not to like. It is from Subversive Cross Stitch which is an awesome website where this woman has a hipster take on cross stitching, something I always associated with my 70 year old grandmother. I bought the materials from her site because I like supporting other craftsters when I can. But, after I bought it my resourceful craft partner, Marie told me about this awsome site, Knitpro 2.0 where you can design your own cross stitch. I think this rocks because you get to be creative and make your own design, plus it is free! So, go and stitch your heart out!

Show N’ Tell: Dog Pin Cushion

written by marieann

I made this dog for Caroline for Christmas. It’s a cute little guy that stands up and has plenty of volume for being pricked by pins. I used this adorable little doggie print fabric and it has blue eyes (like me!) I used a purchased pattern (I’ll edit with the exact pattern ASAP) so this is only a show n’ tell post. But feel free to design your own animal pin cushions.

Show N’ Tell: Pinwheel Quilt

written by marieann

I made this quilt the summer before I started college. The backing is the same floral of the border — a fabric I adored in my mom’s stash and she sweetly gave me for this quilt. I didn’t quilt it but instead tied it. I wanted to be done already, tehehe.
